Emerald Botanic Gardens.

To the west of Emerald is an area known as The Gemfields, with small towns such as Sapphire and Rubyvale indicating the type of gems found there.
The sapphire fields located there are the largest in the southern hemisphere.

Photos of the Botanic Gardens.

Below bamboo.

The above photo is a 'free caravan/motorhome' park for self-contained ones.  We didn't do that.

  4. Cacti - the curse of the stock raising fraternity - sheep and cattle.
Maybe nice as a small ornamental type pot plant and out in the paddocks a
    bloody curse!
Bamboo isn't all that far behind.

The park looks to be well maintained, maybe to keep the two curses in check.
You are doing well with your coverage of all - the good, the bad and the ugly on this 2017 "escape" from the chills of Tassie to the warmth of the tropics.
    Cheers

  6. The cacti are amazing, so pretty. Emerald, Sapphire and Rubyvale, can they be linked by a circle? Like a necklace? Where's my map...

    1. Not sure about the circle as being linked but they wouldn't be too far away. Definitely need a map to find out :)

  7. Great descriptive names for the towns. I must confess that each time I see your pictures I start to muse about the birds I might see there, so any time you have a chance if you could throw In the
odd bird picture that would be great! Anything common to you would be uncommon to us. Thanks!!

    1. Such large cacti is always nice for me to see but of course for those that live in many parts of Australia where cacti grows it's a weed.
