Port Macquarie, NSW

Port Macquarie is a town at the mouth of the Hastings River in New South Wales, Australia. It’s known for its beaches, wildlife and penal colony past. St. Thomas' Anglican Church was built by convicts in the 19th century. A coastal walk from the town centre to the 19th-century Tacking Point Lighthouse offers views over waters home to whales and dolphins.

Once again in Winter 2016 a caravan park was by the Hastings River, this was our view!

    Strange but cute lighthouse. Sometimes cloudy, sometimes grey, sometimes very blue.

    We put our penal colonies in some spectacular places didn't we? I doubt it was any consolation to the forced inhabitants though...

    Boardwalk!! I love them. Really like the lighthouse and lookout point too.
    The sea is so blue there.

      Yes! Made for the tourist :) Was a beautiful winter's day, the sea was just unbelievable, so lovely.

    I am back.
    Margaret, I am curious (I know I can search on the net, but I prefer to ask you): what are the most popular destinations (holidays abroad) for Australians? I suppose it depends where you live in Australia.
    For instance: if you live in Vancouver, a popular destination may be Hawaii since the flight time is less than 6 hours. If you live in Toronto, it will take you 10 h to get there.
    Torontonians like to go to Florida, Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic – not very far and reasonably priced. : )

      Catarina, many Australians fly to Bali or places over that way, it's relative cheap and not too far. Lots fly to Europe, then there are those that go to the USA and of course Canada.
      Destinations are varied for Australian.

      Have a son his wife and their two little ones on the Gold Coast holidaying at the moment, they will be home soon - and yes, I'm told, it has rained and rained :)

      Winter began on July 1, here Bill.
      Tasmania in the north is where we live and today is just a perfect winter's day at 15 degC (59F), blue clear sky and sun shinning - no heater needed at the moment with sun coming in the house.
