Launceston buildings.

Launceston Post Office and Clock.

After the Launceston General Post Office was built in 1889, a group of residents formed The Launceston Clock and Chimes Committee in 1906 to raise funds to extend the tower's height, and install the clock and chimes

The Post Office has moved to various locations over the years, it's now back  in the original Post Office.

The Town Hall which was build in the mid 1800's.

The town Library.  Outside one can sit and look at the Town Clock, use the internet for 'free' with a limit of 500mb per 24 hour period.

  1. The Town Hall is really beautiful, as the buildings on the top. But the last one is not in the same series...

    1. Lovely buildings except for the Library, totally agree. The Library looks out of place.

  5. Those are nice old buildings, and so well maintained. It would be nice to sit and listen to the chimes.
Most libraries in the US have free wifi here with unlimited use. From our travels we also know that you can sit outside Walmart, Home Depot, and Starbucks and use their wifi for free. We have even discovered that most restaurants have free wifi if you ask.

Still no home PC - can't find my IT specialist mate from work days,
but am trying to locate him.
The other possible is bloody holidaying in Cape Town, South Africa.
Not much use way over there - ha ha.

Great shots Margaret. No wonder you are so proud of Launceston.
Thank God for libraries with FREE internet services.
      Cheers

    2. Thanks Colin.
Was wondering how you were progressing with your PC + Internet.
Internet is not that brilliant down here either at the moment.
Hope you can find someone to look and repair your PC - good luck on that.

    3. I love listening to the clock chiming.
Outside the wifi is free with 500MB, inside if you use their computers it's different I believe.
Never found free wifi outside a town shops as yet in our travels, maybe this year we might.
We have McDonalds with free wifi but one has to log on first with a password.

      You are welcome.
I do have other photos of the city in older posts, so not repeating same photos or areas hopefully. I'm keeping an eye on it!

  11. I wonder for how much long we'll actually have a postal service. It sure must have seen some changes over the years.

    1. Goodness only knows. Post is certainly not the same and hasn't been for a very long time. Maybe one day there will not be a Post Office but parcel to post will always be I guess.

  12. Hmm, the best thing that can be said about the library is that it has nice views. The other buildings are great.

    1. Don't care for the design of the library myself Andrew but I expect the building was done much later in the piece and not kept in style.

  13. I can see a balcony running around the tower below the clock - are you allowed up there to see the view?

  14. The Post Office and Town Hall are fine looking buildings. They certainly knew how to build back then. If time-travel is ever invented, I'm going back to the 1800s, (with a modern plumber and electrician) and have the builders of that time build me a home.

    1. Certainly those buildings of the 1800s are well built, not like today.

    1. No they don't unfortunately. Now buildings are built and many years later many are pulled down to commence another one.

  19. The library looks like a fun place to hangout.
I love the older buildings. Our post office was in a beautiful older building downtown, then moved to the outskirts. I've never figured that one out.

    1. Libraries are always interesting, and many departments in the same building hold so much information.
One would never know why Post Offices are moved as was ours to two other places and now back where it belongs.
