There is a market called Mindil Market or Mindil Beach Sunset Market which it is said to be a wonderful market. Markets are not my 'thing'.
Sunsets are supposed to be lovely there too, but I didn't capture one.
The video is fast motion that goes for about 1 minute and 41 seconds. It gives some idea of the size of the market.
The above is really nice with beautiful grounds to the sand and sea.

DeleteThe palm trees do look nice and I was surprised to see them there. The lawns were very green also which made for lovely setting.
My partner went to those markets. He said they were BIG, noisy, colourful and fun. He also thought they were surprisingly expensive.

Those trees are palm trees Gosia, there are many kinds and varieties that will grow in the tropics.
DeleteThe market there sells most things, for eg, jewellery, food from many countries, books, fruit, paintings, candles and so on.
The quiet and solitude from your pictures , make a large contrasting with the bustle of the market.

I've also been told, like EC, that these markets are quite famous
where darn near anything can be purchased.
I don't believe I would go swimming at that beach - salt water
crocs. have a habit of swimming around.

I have fond memories of the sunset at Mindil Beach and got some great deals for tours at the market. There used to be a place where you could get reduced prices on tours leaving the following day as they were selling off any unsold seats.

DeleteThe beaches in Darwin never tempted us either, although we did sit on Mindil Beach to watch the sunset and it did not disappoint. https://highriser.blogspot.com.au/2005/08/western-sky.html , complete with incorrect spelling of Mindil. The market was busy but overrated, I thought. Crowds of people attract more crowds of people. We left and went to the nearby casino and watched on the monster tv screen bombs going off all over London but we did not at that stage quite realise the significance of what we were watching.

ReplyDeleteI've never physically seen the beaches of Darwin...but in my mind's eye I've always felt there was something bleak or sinister about them; perhaps "eerie" is a better description of my thoughts. It's difficult to explain.
