The Jigger!

To get away from photos of travelling our journey, it's something different this time.

We bought a Wi-Fi 'thing' called Telstra 4G My Pocket WI-FI Lite which connects up to 10 Wi-Fi Devices. It's Pre-Paid, and I bought $140.00 worth of credit with 16GB of data for 2 years.  After I had it activated yesterday I discovered there was a bonus of 4GB to be used within a month....so happy surfing the Internet for us for the next month for free.
We both love the Internet and technology plus what we can learn and read.

We have many TV channels here in Darwin but not much on the blessed thing.  So a change from reading and crocheting, the Internet is always welcome in the evening time.

  1. We have similar devices in America but I've never had one. I belief that's one you can use almost anywhere. My internet is stuck at the house, though a lot of restaurants and stores are starting to make free wi-fi almost universal

  2. Yes it can be used anywhere as long as there is a phone signal, then you have the Wi-Fi signal too. A great idea. There are a few places in Australia that have free Wi-Fi, some have a data limit.

  3. So how does it work? Do you need a wifi signal or does it only need a mobile phone signal? Seems like a good idea. If I had to choose between my TV and my computer/internet then I'm afraid that the TV would lose!

  4. You need the same signal as you need for a phone. You can connect your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desk computer to it as well as long as that computer has a wireless card..

We both use this new device as we travel. Have an old one similar but that is just about worn out, so hence the new one.

    1. It's a great wi-fi modem. Here there's various names for it...some public places have free wi-fi with limited download and usage...today I had to sign a document that was emailed to me...went to a certain shop, the document was printed out, I signed it, they scanned it and email it to me, then I emailed it back to the person who sent it to me = doing business as I travel...

  6. Most places here have free WIFI but isn't it amazing that you can connect anywhere with the device when you are out in such remote areas of Australia?

    1. It's excellent for me in remote places if there is a connection, so many small places don't have connection....but that's ok...I'm wondering how much data it uses this new wi-fi modem, as in what rate..

  7. What a nifty idea. I will have to investigate. I am certain that my partner would love it.
And Craig is right. If I could choose between TV and the internet the TV would lose. Hands down.

    1. It's excellent so far :) just wondering how long the data will last, but of course that depends on usage...well I use Internet and watch TV at same time...

    2. That will eat up your data allowance pretty quick I think. My 15GB used to last me 6-8 months and that was just my blog and looking at real estate. When I started with the musical Mondays searching you tube for songs and loading them to my blog meant that same 15GB would only last me 3-4 months. Now that I only get 10GB at a time it lasts only ten-fourteen weeks.

  8. I do not understand what you bought. Is this a mobile wifi you can take everywhere and get connected?

    Greetings,

That seems like a very handy, useful little device...particularly when on the road

  12. Yeah when Jessica moved she bought one of those wi fi things for her house and she thought it was great, suggested to my sister it might be an good idea for her house as she can't afford a contract for internet

  14. Margaret;
Love the new script - so much easier to read.
Great shots of the pair of "roos" - him and her! "From the
shot of the "her" - there is certainly a "joey" in the pouch.
"Him" looks ready for action if you were to step closer!
Great to know that this new fangled gadget is what you want.
    Cheers
    Colin
PS: Can't make up weatherwise happenings here - warm day for a typical winter's
day but with those annoying rain skuds!

    1. Well that's good you like the new script...I like it too!
Not always easy to get a good photo of Roos as with many animals. The pair above we very watchful of me as I crept to take the photo which I took at Katherine where one gets on the little boats for the trip up the Gorge there..
This new dangled gadget is doing ok so far, not sure how long the pre-paid credit will last....have two years to use it, but I'm heavy on data, and there are two of us using it!

  15. I do not know how many GB of data we go through on our unlimited cable connection, but I can imagine 16 now lasting very long.

    1. Maybe. It depends on what you do on the Internet....we each use a lot of data but being away from home we try not to use too much..

  16. I've been wondering how well those little gadgets work! I currently have a Telstra SIM card embedded in my Notebook, but it's 5 years old and will need replacing soon. I've been told I'd have to have a tablet if I want the same set up as laptops aren't made with SIM space any more. SO this is the next best option - have you been anywhere yet where it doesn't work??

PS Are you the 'M' who comments on my blog from time to time??

    1. Yes that's me...M...too lazy to write my name :)

The only time I won't work is when there is no signal, but that also means there is no mobile phone signal either. I also have iPad with a SIM Card but my laptop connects to my new Wi-Fi... If you are thinking of getting one do check the 'plans' against the Pre-Paid. The one I have as in photo is pre-paid but it can also be put on a plan if you wish...

    2. Thanks M! I'd still prefer to have a SIM card (so it's all together in one place), but as I don't want a tablet, it looks like I'll have to consider this when I get a new laptop! Just a little bit paranoid about losing it!! At present, I pay $35 for 4GB per month - $140 for 16 GB is comparable. But thanx for the tip about checking the plans!

  17. Telstra 4G...I'm writing this down, looking for a new plan, now that my old one is no linger satisfactory. $140 for 16GB is only $1 more than I used to pay for 15GB (now I only get 10GB for the same amount). I'll stop in at my Telstra store and ask about this. It should work well enough in the city here.

  18. I'm hoping this will last for our holiday....let me know how you get on when you have been to Telstra...

  19. I have never used Wi-Fi so I have to be honest in saying that I am very behind in technology. I only began using a laptop in the last three years and at first it was a challenge, but now I am used to it. LOL! I don't have a DVD player or those portable readers, (forget what they are called), and I don't have a cell phone, either. I am very happy for those who do, though, and as long as they use them and benefit from them, it's all good. :)

    1. I suppose many people haven't used WiFi, but that doesn't matter.
It always get easier when using and we learn so much. I bet you are pleased you did learn with the laptop..
