Murals at Sheffield

Sheffield is inland along the North West Coast of Tasmania, Australia and it's known for having Mt. Roland nearby and Murals within the town.  It's called Sheffield because the first settlers the Powlett family came from Sheffield in England. Mining and potato exports made the country town thrive back in the late 1880's.
These days Sheffield has reinvented itself with the arts.  Sheffield host a mural competition usually each year and many murals are on  buildings in the main street and other streets within Sheffield.  I took photos of these murals when there last.

    1. Yes, many talented people and I believe the artists come from afar to paint them too.

  3. When I was looking at a very small Victorian town of Clunes, I understood why they wanted to become world famous for their books. Sheffield is just as small, and I hope is becoming just as notable for its art.

    1. Interesting town is Clunes, Hels. Good place to go and see what is there.
People/artists come from afar to paint these murals, which is good.

  4. Very beautiful and decorative, a marvel considering their size and quality. I think I once mentioned that my city, Linares, is a museum of murals and graffiti, but on a national level.
    Regards.

  9. Příspěvek a fotografie mě hodně zaujaly. 👍

    1. How wonderful you saw a film on Tasmania. I wonder what one it was? If you return here to read the comment, would you mind leaving the films name if you can remember it. Thank you.

  10. I had no idea there was a Sheffield in Australia, let alone Tasmania. The murals are great, with their own purpose built shelters.

  12. Sheffield has turned its history into a living canvas, where stories now thrive not in mines or fields, but across vibrant murals lining its streets

    1. Very true in what you say. There used to be a pottery place there in Sheffield where they made such wonderful good looking stuff, but that's gone now.

  24. The fact that it was named after Sheffield in England is a fun little fact too. I bet having Mt. Roland in the background makes the whole place look like a postcard. It’s so much better when a town finds a creative way to stay vibrant and keep people coming through. The photos you took are absolutely stunning with all that color against the Tasmanian landscape.
