Sheffield is inland along the North West Coast of Tasmania, Australia and it's known for having Mt. Roland nearby and Murals within the town. It's called Sheffield because the first settlers the Powlett family came from Sheffield in England. Mining and potato exports made the country town thrive back in the late 1880's.
These days Sheffield has reinvented itself with the arts. Sheffield host a mural competition usually each year and many murals are on buildings in the main street and other streets within Sheffield. I took photos of these murals when there last.

Hello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteI think these are truly beautiful murals.
The first five photos are my favorites.
I wish you a lovely Wednesday.
All the best, Irma
Thank you Irma. It's a delight to see these murals at Sheffield. There are many more as well in the same area.
DeleteWow! Awesome art!
ReplyDeleteIt is Anne. Thanks.
DeleteThe murals are very beautiful. Those who paint them must be very talented. Take care.
ReplyDeleteYes, many talented people and I believe the artists come from afar to paint them too.
DeleteWhen I was looking at a very small Victorian town of Clunes, I understood why they wanted to become world famous for their books. Sheffield is just as small, and I hope is becoming just as notable for its art.
ReplyDeleteInteresting town is Clunes, Hels. Good place to go and see what is there.
DeletePeople/artists come from afar to paint these murals, which is good.
Very beautiful and decorative, a marvel considering their size and quality. I think I once mentioned that my city, Linares, is a museum of murals and graffiti, but on a national level.
ReplyDeleteRegards.
Something to admire when visiting Sheffield, Jose. I do recall you telling me that, though I had forgotten...thanks for the reminder.
DeleteMargaret, they are very pretty! The graffiti beautify the cities
ReplyDeleteYes, they are pretty Norma. Artist come from afar to paint them so I'm told.
Deletewow...these murals are so very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie, I think the same. :)
DeleteThose murals are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary, and I think the same too.
DeleteThe murals are amazing. How fun to have a mural competition. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, and each year the competition draws artists from near and afar.

DeleteHi dear Margaret, these murals are gorgeous and vibrant.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed they are Linda.
DeleteWhat brilliant murals you've shared here ... thank you.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
You are welcome, Jan. there are many more there in that area.
DeletePříspěvek a fotografie mě hodně zaujaly. 👍
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful you saw a film on Tasmania. I wonder what one it was? If you return here to read the comment, would you mind leaving the films name if you can remember it. Thank you.
DeleteThank you for your reply. I will look for it on our TV Channels, often you can see these Documentaries online on their Channel. I have a feeling I have seen these episodes in the past :) Thank you once again.
DeleteI had no idea there was a Sheffield in Australia, let alone Tasmania. The murals are great, with their own purpose built shelters.
ReplyDeleteThoughtful who ever commissioned those little verandas as each painting has one in that area. Yes, a Sheffield is here.
DeleteThese are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThey sure are.
DeleteThese are very beautiful. I like best the one with the town in a bottle.
ReplyDeleteClever is that one R.
DeleteI like them--- Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Bill.
DeleteSome really terrific murals there, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteYes there is David and many more too in that area.
DeleteSheffield has turned its history into a living canvas, where stories now thrive not in mines or fields, but across vibrant murals lining its streets
ReplyDeleteVery true in what you say. There used to be a pottery place there in Sheffield where they made such wonderful good looking stuff, but that's gone now.
DeleteBeautiful murals indeed. Very nice to see, thanks Margaret.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Bill.
DeletePenso que os murais abonam a qualidade dos artistas.

ReplyDeleteYou are most welcome Denise. There has been a Cyclone up there in the past couple of days of course damage done as usual.
DeletePreciosos Margaret. Me encanta verlos
ReplyDeleteBuen fin de semana.
Un abrazo.
Thank you Laura.
DeleteThe fact that it was named after Sheffield in England is a fun little fact too. I bet having Mt. Roland in the background makes the whole place look like a postcard. It’s so much better when a town finds a creative way to stay vibrant and keep people coming through. The photos you took are absolutely stunning with all that color against the Tasmanian landscape.
ReplyDeleteThank you Melody. Many places in Tasmania and other State of Australia are named after places in Scotland, England and Ireland.
DeleteIt's heartening to see places re-invent themselves when their glory days are over. The artist behind these is obviously a skilled artist. Love the bottle one.
ReplyDeleteI love that bottle one too, Pauline. They the murals are painted by different artists which is interesting.
DeleteMuy bien captados esos murales, que dan vida y color al entorno.
ReplyDeleteUn saludo, amiga
Thank you Ildefonso.
DeleteI'm glad you immortalized these wonderful murals!! I really like the first one, as if it shows the reconciliation of the peoples...
