Flora: Wreath Flower!

Pinda is a very small town not far from Mullewa Western Australia.  It's here in Pinda along a lonely 'Bull Dust' Rd that one will find the Wreath Flower plant in the late winter.  Apparently there are only a couple of places in this world where these plants can be found, Pinda being one.

These Wreath Flowers are not prickly. In the middle of nowhere they grow, though not plentiful.

 They come in a few different colours.

Mullewa, Western Australia.

In our travels of the State of Western Australia we were told about 'The Crown of Thorns' (to come later) so hence the search began as the directions were rather sketchy.  So after travelling a very long way, across the top of Australia and down the West Coast then inland we came across the Town of Mullewa which is rather small with a lot of Aboriginal people living there.  We found the Information Centre which is a good place to start, there found a white man who knew the history of Mullewa so hence he informed us where to find 'The Crown of Thorns' plus he told us about the Priest who built the Catholic Church.  Before we set off to find 'The Crown of Thorns' we decided to drive around the small town and came across 'Our Lady of Carmel Catholic Church'.  

Father John Hawes had great difficulty in building this Church. I was told a lot of the stone was from the area, plus he mainly built it himself with help from a few Aboriginals and white people.

I was amused to read 'Alarm Area', it speaks for itself in Mullewa.

John Hawes was born at Richmond in England and studied architecture before becoming an Anglican Minister. He worked as a missionary but seems to have had a change of heart about which brand of religion to follow and joined the Catholic Church.

 

He came to the Mid-West in 1915 and began designing and building a series of churches through out the region. In 1930 he became the official Diocesan Architect but in 1939 he left for Cat Island in the Bahamas and never came back to W.A.

 

He spent 24 years in W.A. and is responsible for the design and building of some 16 different buildings.

Broome. Western Australia.

I love the colours in the sandstone around the town of Broome in the State of Western Australia.
Gantheaume Point has lovely colourings in the sandstone there. It can be seen where the sea has made it's mark on the shaping of these rocks.
Dinosaur footprints can be found approximately 30m (98ft) during a low tide which date back to 130 million years it's believed.
The first time we went to Broome we were not that taken with the place, but somehow we ended up there again 2 years late and stayed longer so therefore discovered more.  Now Broome is one of my favourite places in Australia to visit.
The town is known for it's cultured pearls and pearling industry.

Eyesight & Glasses!

So amazing is the sight of my eyes.

Late September 2012 I had my eyes tested for new glasses plus lenses, also my computer glasses. I was told my eyes had improved and the then glasses were too strong. 

Two weeks later I couldn't see the computer screen clearly, my every day glasses were not clear either, I could see better with both pairs of glasses off, so didn't often wear them except for reading.

In January I decided I would like a pair of prescription sunglasses, it was discovered that my eyes had further improved - wow!  I am not complaining. How lucky I am, but having said that it's also a bit of a problem because my eyes ache at times when I don't wear my glasses for normal wear and computer. So it seems I should get 2 pairs of glasses again, but if I do, no doubt my eyes will improve further then those lenses are rendered useless.  I will wait till early next year if I can to have my eyes tested again and obtain 2 pairs of glasses.....oh dear!

Knitting

It's been a very long time since I did any knitting.  I guess it would be when my sons were little as in toddlers, then knitting seemed to go out of fashion and warm jumpers were cheaper to buy than pure wool, so therefore I ventured into crocheting dollies for my then alive mother and myself, progressed into making rugs or throw overs for the bed which I use when I stop at my dads to sleep.

However, I have crochet several plus some shawls, then it dawned on me I should see if I could still knit seeing as I had bits and piece of wool left over, so hence I commenced a jumper for myself and have nearly finished the front, yes knitting in the heat in the evening time getting ready for winter.

All these later crocheting and knitting is acrylic wool, but I did buy some Alpaca wool to knit later.

 

Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bendigo

Bendigo is about 150km from Melbourne in the State of Victoria Australia
Gold was discovered many years ago so hence many migrants came to settle and find the gold.
There are also factories of various types along with farming in the district.

Sacred Heart Cathedral was built of Sandstone in the mid to late 1800's, after a rest the Cathedral was completed in recent times being one of the largest Cathedral's in Australia.

During my spare time I have been making the World with Photoshop CS6 from a tutorial, after many hours I finally got the result I wanted.
One thing is I have to learn how to keep it spinning.
