Schouten Island, Tasmania Australia

The holiday over in 2017 so what will I blog about now!
Often we travel to various places in Tasmania, sometimes in the caravan other times in the car for the day - so surly I would have photos to share of this magic Island called Tasmania, Australia my home Island.

Great Oyster Bay at Swansea on the East Coast of Tasmania.

That island is Schouten Island, the highest point Mt. Story is 400m high (1,300 ft).
In 1642 whilst surveying the area Abel Tasman (Dutch explorer) named it Schouten Island after Joost Schouten, a member of the Council of the Dutch East India Company.

    1. Peaceful there at times, other times it's rough like any sea.

Went to the Information Centre this morning and was told about the Orange Bellied Parrot! Found on the island in the south west..in November.

  6. I've only visited Tasmania, once...back in June, 1987...I had to attend a conference in Hobart, in my role as manager-sales/marketing manager of the then resort on Hinchinbrook Island. I loved my few days spent there. I even got to drive from Hobart to Launceston and back again one day...and then fly out off to Melbourne late afternoon.

I have fond memories of my time spent in our beautiful state of Tassie.

    1. That is an ok drive from Hobart to Launceston, the road has changed somewhat, but still takes 2 hours if you don't pull into Ross, Oatlands etc. to look around.

  7. That's a wonderful beach shot--- deceptively simple, but beautiful! Oh yes--- the little squirrel was quite small. Maybe 8 inches, nose to tail tip.
