Trains and portable homes in Rockhampton, Queensland

Rockhampton is in the Tropic of Capricorn, Australia.
This long trains goes across one of the main streets, so it's a long wait.
The reason why is [here]

Transportable homes all stored in this holding yard till someone buys one.  I found a link to some houses that are the original and restored.  Link is [here].  I found these rather fascinating.

    1. Guess we could call them recyclable homes, not in every city or town though.

  2. I would hate to be the truck driver who has to drive those to a location. It happens here rarely, and it doesn't look fun

  4. All kinds of interesting stuff in this post! The newspaper's piece on the train was great to see--- as well as your pictures. And having the houses ready to move--- as with the others, that's a new one on me! Also, while I'm not a total train buff, I was curious to see if the rail cars are like ours-- they are, mostly. Fun post!

  6. I think it's great the homes are being moved and reused rather than razed. Interesting that the train runs right down the street.

  9. A mind-bogglingly long train - and I'd not known there were 'house stores' anywhere. Fascinating!

  10. Portable homes are all over this area in Terrigal in the retirement estates.
Some are very large and quite palatial. The assembling of them is quick and fascinating.
You also find these homes in the mining areas for the mining workers and also on the large cattle properties (ranches for US viewers) for the stockmen.

The trains ( long ones ) are amusing to see in the main streets of some Qld country towns. Might be a deterrent to the young "hoons"???
I know the freight train would come off best in a collision - ha ha.
Good report as now is the norm, Margaret.
    Cheers

  11. The long house in the last picture looks a lot like the portable classrooms we had in school. If I had a block of land and a bit of cash, I'd buy one of those houses.

That one does look like a classroom and may have been used for one in the past.
