Good Friday

Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great FridayBlack Friday or Easter Friday, though the last term properly refers to the Friday in Easter week.

All shops are closed on Good Friday but I'm sure there would be one open somewhere in Tasmania.

What do you do on Good Friday?

  5. I hope to spend the day in the garden. There will be the occasional shop open here today too. And I have no plans (or need) to go anywhere near it.
    Happy Easter.

    1. Enjoy the day in the garden, I bet you find it relaxing where as it's work to me :) Found out this morning that the IGA is open just up the road, neighbour said. Like you have no intentions of going there.

  10. My Good Fridays are the same as any other Friday. I don't celebrate Easter, but I appreciate that others do, so I don't complain about closed shops or buses running on holiday timetables etc. I just go about my usual Friday business, which includes a lot of napping in between meals and computer time.

    1. We don't have a traditional meal on Easter Sunday, people as in family and friends call in. Shops closed do not bother me, I can buy enough to last me several weeks if necessary as it was the normal thing to do when we lived on the farm when first married.

  14. When I was a child (1950s and 60s) businesses closed down in the middle of the day and my dad met us for a 1:00 church service. In my memory it was very often a rainy day and with such a gloomy sad service, I felt gloomy and sad, too.
Now in America nothing closes down and if there is a church service, it is in the evening. And we personally don't do anything special on this day.

    1. How the people have changed the times then.
Was the same back in the 1950's and 1960's here as well. One supermarket was open on Good Friday so someone told me, so in time I reckon Australia will be like where you are.

  15. My memories are much the same as Cynthia's (above). There are really only 5 important holidays left here. Christmas (when you get stuff), Easter (When kids get candy-- forget eggs), Halloween (when kids get more candy)(All Hallows Eve? Never heard of it), New Years Eve (When grownups get themselves candied), and Superbowl Sunday (When many people pretend to be football fans, annoying the football fans) I hope your Easter is full of goodness.

    1. Well Halloween or All Hallows Eve also a horror movie is not necessarily a big thing here, though children do take part mainly at school, but it's a matter of time and it will be popular.
Laughed at your football remark, same here at the Grand Final :)
      Thanks.
