Around Bowen, Queensland

Bowen is where part of the movie 'Australia' was filmed, starring Nichole Kidman.

Was rather amused at the sign, one could see that you would end up in the sea if you kept going, but I suppose some people have driven down and found themselves in water.

A lovely area to go walking when the tide is out.

The above photo was taken along from the Caravan Park.

  2. Hello Margaret,
That looks very well. A wonderful area and not bad to be.
Funny shot of that End of the road.

    1. I thought the sign was funny too, and figured that many people have gone straight through into the sea, so hence the sign.

    1. A nice sheltered marina, but of course the cyclone that was Debbie wouldn't care - be interesting to see photos of what the damage is now.

  8. Never underestimate how stupid some people are. It is a nice expanse of sand without seaweed and rocks.

    1. Don't often see a large area of sand like that without anything on it. Might be rather soft to walk on.

  9. Such a beautiful blue sky and blue ocean.

  10. Margaret, never underestimate the stupidity of some people.
I bet more than one car has gone down that track to the beach
and God only knows how many motor bikes and sand buggies.
It would be interesting to know how long the tide takes to come in and
cover that beach front. I suspect rather quickly.
What's the name of those strange palm trees?

Blue skies and ocean when you were there last year but I reckon
a different ferocious looking sky and sea when "Debbie" hit.
    Great report.

    1. On a dark night someone going too fast - bingo off the road, I expect it has happened too many times so hence the sign.
I think the palm is a Bismarckia Palm which is a fan palm.

    1. There is a bend just bend just behind me, so when I saw the view it was indeed 'Aw'.

  17. The tide really goes out a long way in Bowen - the sign is very amusing.

    1. It does go out a long way which makes for nice walking along the sand if solid enough.

  19. For a brief period in 1997 I managed the Whitsunday Sands Resort at Grays Bay, just before you get to Horseshoe Bay. The owners (and previous managers) were crooks who enjoyed taking advantage of others in the most underhanded way. The whole episode turned into the most distressing fiasco! Long story...one I will tell one day.

  20. I didn't realise the movie was shot up there. Of course, I associate it more with Hugh Jackman, than Nicole. ;-)

    1. Yes, part of the movie was made there - and of course Hugh being male would stick more in a women's mind :)
