A peaceful place.

Down near The Strand in Townsville is the Marina then behind me is a large lawn area where the Cenotaph is.  'Tis a beautiful area.

There were children playing here with the boys climbing up these old trees.

  2. Well--- Cenotaph sent me googling. It's good to learn new words even when you are... uh... mature. Enjoyed your pictures! But then I always do.

  3. Strangler Fig in the last photo, I think. I note there are lots of newer apartment buildings.

    1. Always changing things in most places here as we travel. New building going up, old ones being torn down.

    1. Was lovely and quiet there at that time of day, but I expect it's not always.

  5. Strangler figs? I love the way they look but they sound dangerous! The serene harbor is beautiful with the reflections of the boats in the water.

    1. Common name or one of the common names Cynthia, don't think they will hurt you :)
Was lucky with the reflections of the boats...at the right place and the right time.

  7. Sure is a jam packed marina. Isn't there a huge fishing business
    in Townsville???
Wonderful words on the cenotaph......most country towns have really
such well cared for memorials. A credit to the RSL, the councils and the
    towns people.
The Strangler Fig is really something - you can see why it got that name.
    Great report on Townsville, Margaret.

Loved your reply on Mt. Wellington.

    1. Not many more boats could fit.
Looked for the fishing industry and couldn't find much at all! Surprising.
You are right about Cenotaphs being in country towns, they are always well kept and show much pride.
That fig was a big one, but then most are up that way.
      Thanks :)

  12. Nice photos Margaret. The one that caught my eye the most is the last one with the trees. I am not used to seeing growth like that.

  13. Townsville played a very important role during the Second World War...and of course, Lavarack Barracks is a major Australia Army Base. And, not to forget the RAAF Base as well.
