A walk to the Crystal Cascade Falls

One of the days whist in Cairns we headed for a walk up the bush as in Rain Forest to the Crystal Cascade Falls.  The water comes from Lake Morris which I did a post on a week or two ago.
The walk takes about 30 minutes, wasn't a good idea for us on a 30deg C day with high humidity, so we didn't make it very far.

The walking path, one of the walk ways to one of the many water holes to have a swim, ferns and then a plant called Lantana which is classed as a weed.  Lantana is a genus of about 150 species of perennial flowering plants in the verbena family.

The photos were taken with my Samsung Galaxy Edge 4 phone.

  2. A friend of mine is really passionate about ferns - and very knowledgeable too. He would go nuts over that stand of ferns!

    1. There are so many varieties of ferns it's hard to imagine that.
Each State and Territory of Australia usually have ferns of some sort.

  3. It looks beautiful, but the heat and the humidity would do me in. Sadly one of our nurseries down here was selling lantana. Pretty as it can be, it is incredibly invasive.

    1. Possibly selling a newer non-invasive variety. I think it's illegal to sell the invasive one.

    2. I do believe you are correct on Lantana being illegal to sell in nurseries these days, not sure if that applies to every State and Territory though.

  6. Very attractive spot. I don't remember it being a problem when I was young, but now, I find walking any distance in heat and or humidity exhausting, which does limit what you do and see in hot places.

    1. That's very true what you say - even housework here in the summer, it's hotter and more draining than when I was younger. At least I can still do it though :)

  7. Hot and sticky? Well as you noted, that's not our problem these days. Although most of the snow is already gone with some warm rain. Nice pictures.

Yes, hot and sticky in the winter in the tropics but not to the locals :)

    1. You could have done as there was a places for buses in the parking area outside the gates. When it rains up there it sure pours down.

    1. It does, I'm pleased with the phone camera and I don't seem to take my other camera if just driving around.
Keep warm in your winter and when we travelled where the photos were taken it was winter time for we were in the tropics.

  10. Lantana is a garden plant here and I have quite a few ferns in the garden as I like their structure.

    1. I expect it does ok due to it not being really hot and humid where you are Rosemary, can understand that.
Ferns are always nice, and we have maiden hair ferns going in the shade outside.

    1. I bet you would love to do that, and just get a bit of a sprinkle of water on you to help keep you cool...certainly been rather warm to hot in many parts of our country of late.

  12. Good shots.
Doesn't look like there is an abundance of water over that rocky pool area?
Stagnant water which is a pity.

    1. Thanks Colin.
There was water running down the creek into the water holes, then over the rocks, just doesn't look like that in that one photo.

  16. The steps down to the rocky creek is my favourite view here. I like the colours of lantana flowers and some of the newer non invasive varieties are in several gardens around my neighbourhood, with new colour varieties being developed in the flowers.

    1. Lantans always look good in the garden controlled, and as time goes on with breeding it's getting better - as you say.
There are a few places on the way up the walk or down the walk where there are steps to the water holes.
