Yorkeys Knob Beach, Queensland

Yorkeys Knob Beach is 11 klms from where we are staying in Cairns.
It has been raining for several days but now fine.
The other day we headed north to Yorkeys Knob, didn't see the turn off and ended up at Port Douglas some 60 klms north.  The next day we went to Yorkeys Knob paying more attention to the signs.
The patrolled beach and in the distance the tropical rain forests of Cairns.

  6. I always thought Port Douglas was in NSW. No wonder I failed geography in school!
    That's a lovely beach.

  7. Not sure why but so often the name brings about a snigger. I think we went swimming at the far end of the beach in your photo.

    1. It's the 'Knob'that causes the sniggers Andrew :)

  9. Nothing wrong about ending up at Port Douglas.
Playground of the rich and the famous.
Maybe if Hillary and Bill Clinton were not pre-occupied, you could
have run into them - ha ha.
Pity about the rain, but that is normal for the tropics.
Here in Brisbane, everyone is walking around in summer clothes
in the MIDDLE of this strange winter.
Maybe, hopefully the usual rotten freezing winds of August this year
will stay way down south with the penguins.
    Cheers
    Colin

  15. I lived at Yorkeys Knob for a couple of years back in the late 80s. Down the far end of Varley Street...diagonally opposite from the road that leads to the marina/yacht club. And then down the other end of Yorkeys Knob Road...towards the Cook Highway. I've written about those episodes in my life a few times in my blog.

I've many good memories of those times. From Yorkeys I moved to Clifton Beach....to a duplex townhouse on the corner of Clifton Beach Road and Arlington Esplanade. That building is long gone and quite a large complex is there now, I think.

    1. Had a good look at both those areas. Looked on the corner you mentioned and one building of apartments 3 stories and not a modern building. Other corner, no high rise either...

    2. When I lived there (Clifton Beach) it was a red-brick townhouse duplex, Margaret...only the two storeys high...two bedrooms and a narrow balcony upstairs with kitchen-dining, lounge area down (and laundry at rear). I left there in early 1990.

Are these the ones you saw at Clifton Beach...on the corner of Clifton Beach Road and Arlington Esplanade?

    4. Knock! Knock! It's just me again! Looking at that current building it has struck me that the property that was next door to the existing building - the one I lived in(after turning left into Arlington) looks like it was purchased and the original building/duplex was extended and the exterior walls were stuccoed to match up with the new buildings. The design remained the same two bedrooms upstairs etc...just more added to it...and the outer walls altered. Just a thought.

    5. Hello Lee, yes that's the building in the links you gave me. Doesn't look as good in reality.
      Thank you for that.
Anything is possible as to what's been done to your house from the past...xx
