Birds and Bunny!

Back in late March we came across a few birds and a bunny.
First 2 photos were taken at Campbell Town, the Swans at Lake Dulverton, Oatlands.
Remainder at Cambridge near Hobart.  All in Tasmania, Australia.
I couldn't get closer as the creatures are not tame enough.

  8. It's hard to take pictures of a rabbit as they disappear quickly before the human presence.

  9. Yes - the answer to Rosemary re: introduction of rabbits to Australia.
One creature for sure that we could have wished was left in Europe and the UK.

I thought that myxomatosis had rid Tassie of these feral pests ages ago.
Great photos of the Black Swans which are "TRUE BLUE" Aussies.
    Cheers

PS; Sent from Library. No decisions yet on my wretched computer.

    1. Myxomatosis does control for awhile. Don't know what they Government is doing at the moment to keep that population down.
Wanted to get closer to the black swan but didn't dare incase I disturbed.
      Ok regarding the library..

  12. The swan is in a strange pose with it looking like it has a very short neck. It isn't too often we see photos of wild rabbits. Good one.

    1. Thanks Andrew.
Swan was getting itself ready to sleep on land, they curl their long neck about their body - weird, that's how they do it.

  13. The swan is always so beautiful, especially the rare black one. I don't see black (but I know we have it here).
We have a lot of wild rabbits, I see them sometimes in the evening jumping in the yard.
But now we have a new problem with wild rabbits, we call them "city rabbits". They have increased a lot in urban areas.
    Have a nie Friday.

    1. Black Swans are plentiful here in Tasmania, we rarely we a white one.
I expect very soon something might have to done with the rabbits up your way - to make then less. Don't see a rabbit where I live in the urban part of the city.

  14. It's been years since I saw an actual wild bunny.
My dad used to go out rabbiting when I was little and the meat was gratefully added to our weekly dinners, I don't think I could eat rabbit now though.
    The ducks are very pretty.

    1. That was my first time in years too.
Rabbits are expensive to buy as in meat for a meal. As you say, men when rabbiting years ago. We often used to have one but can't say I enjoyed the meat, but a long time since we have eaten one.

  15. The duck in the 1st photo is of beautiful colour. We don't get to see wild bunny here. We only get to see the farmed reared ones or pets.

  23. Black Swan is surely one of the most emblematic of Australian birds. I had seen them in waterfowl collections around the world, but I was thrilled to see my first wild birds when I visited Australia in 1999.
