Near Westwood, Tasmania. Australia

Westwood is not far from Launceston towards the west.
My husbands Ancestors lived there, and Samuel was born in England in 1789, his wife Margaret, was born in 1820 in England the daughter of a Soldier.
A big age difference.  People today would say he's a cradle snatcher :)

Westwood is a farming area.

At a farm gate there is this statue done with a chainsaw.

Back when I took this photo there had been a lot of rain - more than I can say for now.

  1. That was a big age difference, but it obviously worked for them.

  4. Good God - that is an age difference - 31 years!!!!
But it was not uncommon as you point out in those days.
I think prospective wives in far away new colonies were a rarity.
Lovely sceney as always from The Apple Isle.
Looks like good grazing country for your excellent Tassie
    Angus beef.
Now ready to be dismantled from this attached gadget - ha ha.
    Cheers

  6. Lovely rich farmland. That creek or river really is running a banker.

    1. Yes, the river was over flowing and once it used to come up over the bridge, but that hasn't happened for many a year.

  7. That is a very good chainsaw sculpture, very detailed! My neighbor, who has died, his wife was 12 years older than he was. Sometimes it's reverse I guess, with the woman being older than the man.

  8. That's a pretty intricate design for a chain saw project. I've seen lots of bears cut out of wood logs, but never anything quite this elaborate.

    1. I haven't seen it done as yet. There is a man here in Tasmania that does it all the time.

  10. It's a lovely country view Margaret. Tasmania almost seems to be like a continent in itself.

    1. Yes, it does. Some parts I'm told are like Ireland due to the early Irish settlers and convicts, some areas are similar to New Zealand. We are but an island, a State of Australia.
