Pasties Tasmanian Style.

Australian Pasties are not Cornish ones, though similar.

In many States and Territories within Australia they can’t be bought because no one cooks them.  They the pasties are made of pasty for the outer and inside is diced potato, grated carrot, and a few peas, plus minced beef or finely chopped beef along with spices. Usually tomato sauce is plastered all over as people do for pies, but not me, as I don't like or eat tomato sauces.
The ones I buy here in Tasmania are delicious, not greasy.  We don’t often have one for lunch but once in a while it’s nice.  When we travel, you always want one :)

    1. Can relate to the calories Rosemary. That's why we don't eat pasties very often.

    1. That would no doubt be true, because many of us have English ancestors.

  4. I am sure I have seen them available in frozen packets in supermarkets and
once tried them - but they were awful - cardboard taste and you had to smother them
    with Rosella Tomato Sauce!
My grandmothers both made them, and so did my mother - so I sure have
eaten them as a kid also with mashed potatoes and peas I believe and -yes- tons
of Rosella Tomato Sauce! Just accepted and no insult to the cook!
They were also one item on the boarding school weekly menu that we boarders
all looked forward to - they were made by manufacturers and not the college
"culinary" staff!! One meal to really look forward to - ha ha! But yes - tomato sauce
    still was to the fore!
    Cheers

    1. Can't buy these in a frozen packet. They are not what you describe and I won't eat a pastie unless it's the one I have pictured above.

    2. Oh yes - from a bakery ! Delicious. I forgot about that way of purchasing them.
My bakery makes lovely ones - I must get some on my next visit with instructions
      on maybe freezing a couple.
Mea culpa for my forgetfulness. Old age??????????????????
      Cheers

    1. It's just a normal size pastie, it's the way I took the photograph, and the plate is a entree one.

  7. Aren't they a terrific travelling food. Just pull up at a bakery and you quickly have something sustaining to eat. Pies can vary an awful lot in quality, but I don't think pasties do as much. Medical authorities warn that pasties should not be eaten daily.

    1. They are good for many occasions, but I don't eat many. Not a lover of pies but sometimes when travelling have no choice.
Well I am safe there on eating pasties.

  8. They look a bit like a pot pie folded over. I think I'll try to find a recipe and make these tomorrow. Minus the tomato sauce. I don't like it either.
