It's hard to believe!

We haven't had rain for a long time, but then it is summer which will end soon. The garden is just kept alive with water and we don't water the lawns.  Water can be costly, plus the lawns will soon green up after a good rain, whenever that will be.

We bought some 'pea straw' for $5.00 AUD a bale recently to put on the garden, it helps keep the weeds down and moisture in. First we have to put some good nourishment in the soil of the garden.

The photo is of the bales of pea straw plus the lawn of same colour.

  2. I hope you will get rain soon.
Here in Georgia, we use straw from pine trees to mulch around the plants.

    1. We hope we get some rain soon too.
It seems that each country/place has their own mulch for the garden, and it's interesting to learn who uses what :)

  3. The dry spell in hitting a large part of South East Asia as well and now we are into water rationing ! Water levels in Dams will be in critical conditions soon if the rain does not come ! It looks terrible to see that lawn in those colors ! Lets all hope for the better soon.

  4. as you know we had major rains here recently. very unseasonal and there were floods everywhere. adelaide in february is usually one of our hottest months. i don't water my lawn either as it's small and as you say, water is expensive. yesterday my son mowed my lawn for me, he's a good son, as it was over a foot high and as green and lush as could be. a few weeks ago it looked very similar to yours. amazing what a good rain will do. i hope everyone who needs rain will get it soon.

    1. Australia is similar, some place don't have rain only in the wet season, and sometimes they don't get a very wet season.

  6. We are in the same boat. No real rain just a few sprinkles now and then. We use sugar cane mulch. I need yo some more but it is a bit hot for gardening at the moment. That's my excuse for being lazy.

    1. That's a good mulch I have heard. I don't think you would be lazy at all. You will get around to it when it gets cooler.

  7. We had some rain here in Montreal days ago but the fear is that it could turn to freezing rain. Thankfully this time it didn't.
